ts heroes, sadly the same cannot be said for their antagonists, who are always merely sloppy attempts at giving the heroes someone to fight, but not much else. They all have generic backgrounds and goals- well not all of them, but many of them. So, today, lets rank all the current MCU villains, and there are many- over 32! This will be a list from worst to first. It will only include film villains, and not the TV villains, because;
  1. The question did not ask for it
  2. Let's face it; the film villains wouldn't stand a chance
Lets get going.
50: Taserface
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 was a horrible movie in my opinion to say the least, and one of the worst parts of the movie was the films minor antagonist- Taserface. For starters the make-up used on him was horrible, absolutely horrible. He had terrible lines of dialogue and the whole joke surrounding his name was so badly executed, especially Rocket's over-reacting with laughter. Taserface was a major disappointment and I was glad when he bit the dust.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
49: Topaz
Topaz was the Grandmasters right-hand woman in Thor: Ragnarok, and she always seemed to do the wrong thing. Whilst she had some laugh out loud funny moments in the film, her role was barely more than five minutes, she didn't really do anything, and was killed off suddenly. Hilarious, but a joke of a character.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
48: The Other
He could have been so much more. Second in command in Thanos' inner circle, commander of the Chitauri alien clan, and he had a sick ass voice, body movement and look. But he was killed so easily by Ronan the Accuser in Guardians of the Galaxy, only in his second movie appearance! I wanted him to have some badass fight scenes, maybe where he used swords. I wanted him to go out like the boss he could have been, but no. He was so useless in the end.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
47: Ayesha
In case it isn't clear, I do not like Guardians Vol. 2. It was cringeworthy a lot of the time. The four primary reasons as to why include Taserface, Ego, Rocket and Ayesha. The idea to make Ayesha an emotionless queen of a video game like society was horrible and she gave me really horrible Queen Padmé Amidala vibes from Star Wars Episodes I-II, which is not a good thing to be reminded of. Her voice an laughter felt so plastic and fake, and her look, just was so badly put on screen. I really disliked Ayesha.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
46: Ego the Living Planet
I am really sad to place Ego here, because he could have, should have, been so much more. There was so much hype regarding who Peter Quill's father was, that it came as a shock when they revealed, a little too early for my taste, that Ego the Living Planet would be good ol' Quill's dad. This was a massive departure from the comics, but I was welcoming the idea. But his story moved too quickly. From his introduction to Quill, to his sub-story with Mantis, and to his dramatic turn into the antagonist. He didn't need to be evil. It was too much of a odd change. I disliked Ego. His story was horribly executed.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
45: Mitchel Carson
Another very minor villain. Now, I feel a little bad for putting Carson here, because he didn't really do anything wrong- haha. But he was just another generic business man who wanted to buy weapons for bigger plans. Now, Carson was an agent of Hydra, so that helps give more reason to his story, however he just had such a minor role, wasn't given any backstory or anything major to do. He also posed no physical threat.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
44: The Shocker(s) + The Tinkerer
Spider-Man: Homecoming gave us one of the best villains the MCU has ever seen, but there are three minor villains, henchmen, who are in the film too, and they're not all that memorable. Its not that they’re bad, its just they aren't all that interesting. I package them together because they come in a collective set. They are all henchmen to the Vulture, and thus don't really have their own stories. The Tinkerer just tinkers with stuff, and the Shockers just shoot blaster bolts at people. There isn't much else to them. They don't even have unique costumes of their own.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
43: Kaecilius
Kaecilius was just too generic villain 101. He wanted complete power over the mystical arts. He wanted to overthrow the Ancient One, and become the greatest sorcerer of all time! The problem with Kaecilius is that there was no real motive or reason for his distaste toward Doctor Strange, his anger was always directed at Ancient One. He had no memorable lines, he didn't look cool, and he also had nothing to do. He was only there as a plot device, which really sucked. Mads Mikkilson could have delivered something incredible, instead he fell away. I didn't even know his name for ages after having seen the movie. That's a bad sign.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
42: Dormmamu
At least the master that Kaecilius was serving was slightly more impactful. But he still wasn't great by any means. He was basically Galactus from Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007), meets Paralax from Green Lantern (2011), which isn't a good mix. He was a cloud in the sky, with a giant head. He was too easily fooled by Doctor Strange at the films end, and was easily overpowered by the films hero. Dormmamu should get another shot at being an antagonist, but with villains like Doctor Doom, Galactus and Magneto returning home, Dormmamu may not have to be Thanos' replacement as the next big(gest) bad of the MCU.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
41: Aldrich Killian (aka the "Mandarin")
I never really liked Aldrich Killian much. I am not a huge fan of Guy Pearce. Whilst there is no denying he is talented, I just can't seem to attatch myself to him. I thought the character’s motives were weak, his story didn't work in with the rest of the Iron Man trilogy, and he was a bit too much of a moustache twirling villain which put me off. The whole twist that he was the "real" Mandarin the whole time bothered me- Ben Kinglsey should have been the Mandarin. The Mandarin is supposed to be Iron Man's major villain, like the Joker is to Batman, and they turned him into a joke. A massive no-no in my books.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
40: Yellowjacket
Aside from the visually cool, badass costume he wore, he was basically a rip-off of the very first major MCU villain- Iron Monger. He was a power hungry business man, who wants to take over a large company, and goes crazy to get what he wants. Whilst I liked Corey Stoll as Darren Cross, his story was too generic, and I thought his turn into an antagonist was a bit too quick. I mean, where did he learn how to use the Yellowjacket suit? When did he learn to fight? Nothing was really explained, which I had a problem with.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
39: Baron von Strucker + Dr. List
Aside from looking visually accurate to the comics, unfortunately his character went no where. He is a pretty major character in the comics and one of the primary leaders of Hydra. In the films he lead Hydra from the post-credits scene in The Winter Soldier to the opening fight scene of Avengers: Age of Ultron before being killed by Ultron. He should have played a bigger role. And whilst we discovered more about him on Agents of SHIELD, his role in the films was cut too short. As for List, well he was also expanded upon on the small screen, but in the films he just was quite a "meh" villain, playing the typical evil doctor role.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
38: Batroc the Leaper
Batroc may have been a very minor antagonist in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and he may have been hired by Nick Fury, thus making him an anti-hero anyway, but he made quite a scene. It was the first of many great fight scenes in The Winter Soldier, and also gave us a very unique fighting style, Batroc fights with his legs (thus the name Leaper). I just think he was easily disposed of. He wasn't particularly memorable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
37: Senator Stern + Jasper Sitwell
I place these two together due to their very much alligned goals, and the fact that they serve as more henchmen to a larger goal, as opposed to their own individual villains. Now, whilst I liked Jasper Sitwell as a "hero", it was a shocking surprise when it was revealed he was a Hydra agent, but I really wish we got to see more of him doing evil things in the name of Hydra. As for Senator Stern, when we met him in Iron Man 2 he was a greedy senator who wanted Tony Stark's Iron Man technology for himself and the government, and watching The Winter Soldier gave us more context as to why, but again, he didn't really do too much outright villainy, and that was a shame. These two could have been so much more.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
36: Whiplash
I feel bad for placing him here, because Mickey Rourke was so invested in the role. He even went to Russia to research the role and accent. However his screen time was so limited it was criminal. He had an interesting story and past with Tony, that was never truly uncovered. Whilst his one scene on the race track in Monoco was badass, he eventually was another hero who created an Iron Man-esque suit and new how to use it in like a week, which again, makes Tony seem stupid. He was ultimately a really forgetable antagonist who didn't really achieve anything.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
35: The Leader
Samuel Sterns was one of the crazier aspects if The Incredible Hulk, and meeting him lightened up what was otherwise a pretty dark film. However at the films end he was knocked to the ground when a bit of Banner's blood got into his open wound, and his head began to grow, and he smiled. The Incredible Hulk was meant to be the first in a trilogy of films, and the original idea was that Sterns become the Leader for Hulk 2. Those plans were scrapped, and now the only official confirmation of were the Leader is now comes in the form of a tie in novel, where it was revealed Black Widow captured him and he is locked up in SHIELD custody. But with SHIELD now Hydra owned- well at least if you aren't watching Agents of SHIELD, where is the Leader now?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
34: Eric Savin + Ellen Brandt
These two Extremis soldiers were fun to watch. They get packaged together because they, like Tinkerer and the two Shockers, were henchmen to a larger threat and basically played the same role. Eric Savin got some really memorable and great scenes, especially the plane scene. Ellen Brandt got a great scene in the country-town pub where she fights Tony. They were both cool, but ultimately unmemorable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
33: Malekith the Accursed
As leader of the Dark Elves it was crucial that he have some sort of presense anongst them. Whilst Malekith may have sounded and look interesting, his plot and execution was just plain generic. He wanted to plunge the universe into enternal darkness, and for what? We actually don't know anything more than that. The film he was in, Thor: The Dark World, spent too much time with Loki, Thor and Jane and not enough time developing what should be a very important aspect of the film. Unfortunately it just wasn't the bad guy we deserved.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
32: Justin Hammer
The business rival of Stark Industries, Hammer Tech, was introduced in Iron Man 2, and whilst Sam Rockwell gave a very charasmatic performance as Justin Hammer, he ultimately was a pretty useless and forgetable villain. Justin Hammer had some great scenes, however the two stories of Whiplash's and Hammers just didn't co-incide very well. Although Justin made a comeback in the short film All Hail the King, and was referenced in Luke Cage, showing that Hammer Tech is still producing weapons even following the imprisonment of Justin, I would love to see him return in a future film as a primary antagonist.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
31: Trevor Slattory/The "Mandarin"
Why I am so disappointed about this is simple; Ben Kingsley's the Mandarin was just so compelling in the first half of Iron Man 3, he was mysterious, intimidating and ruthless. He not only gave the essence of being the Mandarin from the comics, in his voice, his characteristics, and demands, he looked the part too. So, it was really upsetting when the "Mandarin" was revealed to really be an actor, Trevor Slattory, hired by Aldrich Killian to play the Mandarin in exchange for drugs. It was so sad. Whilst I found the character hilarious, and it really showed off Ben Kingsley's acting talents, it was unnessescery. Although I liked him in the All Hail the King short film, he should have been the Mandarin, no twist included.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
30: The Destroyer
He is praticuarly a robot for the Asgardians when they need it. So he is really a puppet. But he showed off his power set in a fierce display in Thor at the films climax. He had a cool look and his powers were quite stunning on screen. However him being a puppet basically for Asgard ruins his placing on the list a little.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
29: Kraglin
I liked Kraglin. He was one of the most memorable parts of Guardians Vol. 2, and he even reformed to become a hero- is he an official Guardians member remains a common question, but as an antagonist he was quite great. He had real humor and was actually quite relatable. He seemed like a guy just caught up in a bad situation. However due to his limited screen time, we don't know too much about him. He also didn't really do too much in the films which down grade his character significantly. Hopefully Guardians Vol. 3 will do something unique with the character.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
28: The Collector
The Collector really is a fascinating character, and I wouldn't mind seeing a whole short film centered around his character and all his collections he owns. But he hasn't really done much in his screen time, and seems ultimately like a moustache twirling villain. He wants things for his own gain and will do anything to add powerful artefacts, even actual living beings sometimes, to his collection of goods. He owned a duck, Howard, a dog, Cosmo, and a Dark Elf, all in his collection! It showed how crazy he is. But he just had too much make-up and seemed to plastic to be taken seriously. He needs more development.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
27: M'Baku
In some cases, M'Baku is more of a hero than some of the other so-called hero characters in the film. However, as he is ultimately a villain, he is included in the villain category. M'Baku was a minor threat in the film, however he posed a true threat to T'Challa, both physically and as far as his status in Wakanda was concerned. His motives, whilst similiar to Killmonger, were fleshed out, so it wasn't an issue that the two were so similiar. He was played well, and whilst he could've been cheesy, like so many other minor threats in MCU films like Taserface and Topaz, he never fell into that trap. I just think his turn at the films end was predictable.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
26: Korath the Abuser
I really liked Korath, he was funny, and was one of the unintentionally funny characters in Guardians of the Galaxy, and I loved how he was part cyborg, but human. He served as a henchmen to Ronin the Accuser, but he actually had a certain individuality to him which I liked. I liked his fighting technique, it was different to others. I would definitely want Korath to return in future films.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
25: Fenris Wolf
What I really loved about Fenris was his look, and how he was brought back to life by the God of Death, Hela. He looked visually stunning and had a memorable battle scene with Hulk on Asgard. And who doesn't love giant wolves? He had a great relationship with Hela, but he could have been built up more and had more to do. Imagine if he was the permanent bodyguard to Hela? That would've been cool.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
24: The Executioner
Thor: Ragnarok brought us four of the MCU's best villains, but the weakest of the best was Skurge, aka the Executioner. What I loved about Skurge was how he was built up to be a sympathetic figure, a survivalist first and foremost. You could tell he didn't want to harm any of the Asgardian citizens, and you could see he was really trying hard to believe in Hela's cause, but you could tell that deep down he despised her, as evidenced by the fact that he never actually killed anyone good in the movie. He was a great character and looked really comic book accurate. I wish he survived for a true redemption arc.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
23: Alexander Pierce
Alexander Pierce was a great character. More than just a businessman, he was ruthless and pure evil, believing everything a Hydra agent should. The scene in his home when he speaks to the Winter Soldier, and his housemaid walks in on them, and he kills her, pure evil! It was a great scene that showed what kind of a man Alexander Pierce was. I loved how he built his way up within SHIELD and was a key reason as to how Hydra revealed themselves to be still an active organisation. I like how he wasn't a coward too, which was a refreshing change of pace.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
22: Raza
Raza gets the honor of being the first villain ever shown on screen in the MCU. Appearing in the first Iron Man as a key member of the terrorist organisation the Ten Rings, I loved him because he brought hope that one day the Mandarin would appear, and he was just a simple terroist, which perfectly fit into the world Tomy Stark inhabited at that time. And he felt like a simple terroist. There was no powers or anything, just a realistic depiction of a terroist. Raza also had a cool name and face so of course I liked him.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
21: Iron Monger
Obadiah Stane was one of the best parts of the first Iron Man film, he was also the first major MCU villain. Whilst he was basically just an evil version Iron Man, the first half of the film showing him as a greedy businessman was great. Jeff Bridges really nailed the role. I liked his family history with the Stark's, both Howard and Tony, and it was just great to see. However I disliked how big his suit was and I hated how quickly he learned to use the suit. Tony took months to learn how to use it properly, but Obadiah learned in what- a day? I had similiar issues with War Machine in Iron Man 2 and Yellowjacket in Ant-Man, but it just bugged me. It lessened Tony's smartness levels.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
20: Yondu Udonta
Yondu is Peter Quill's adopted father and he had many great moments during his time. In the first film he was an enemy of Quill, turned reluctant ally. In the sequel he is disgraced of not recieving the Orb and goes after Quill, eventually becoming a true father figure to Quill and redeeming himself. I love his whistle weapon, by far one of the coolest weapon in the MCU, he also had a cool look. But despite his redemption arc, Guardians Vol. 2 really just made his character a little cringeworthy and annoying, especially the "I'm Mary Poppin y'all" it just didn't work for me. He was great in Guardians Vol. 1, but Vol. 2 lost it a bit for me. But still a cool character, I would love to see him in some fashion return again.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
19: Arnim Zola
Arnim Zola was a pleasent surprise of a villain. At first he was a simple henchmen villain to the Red Skull, but he ended up being so much more. Not only was he fun to watch, having some great quirky dialogue, he also was a brilliant scientist, and had a story after his master and leader perished. He was more than a henchman, as he believed in Hydra, not the Red Skull soley. He built his mind in a computer, so he could still live long after death, he helped build Hydra from within SHIELD when it was being formed, why SHIELD ever recruited Zola is beyond me, but it happened. Also in Captain America: The First Avenger we see blueprints of Arnim Zola's comic book costume, so I like how he had goals of his own.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
18: Kurse
It's always sad when the secondary villain fares better critical reception than the main villain. Kurse was so cool, not only in look, but how commited to the cause he was. Whilst Malekith was just a simple leader of the Dark Elves, what made Kurse so good is how much, how faithful he was to the cause of the Dark Elves. He gad some amazing scenes, helping the Asgardian prisoners escape was awesome, and he just had so much presence, which I loved.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
17: The Grandmaster
He is the Collector's brother, and he is as much a showman as he is a criminal. Jeff Goldblum's portrayol of the ruler of the planet Sakaar was so well done. Whilst Marvel completely changed the look of the Grandmaster from the comics, a fact I was initially opposed of, it worked out in the end. His clothing, his wit and humor, and the way he treats his "guests" were all so fun! I would definitely love to see him return. But I do want to see how he goes in a galactic battle of his own, perhaps against the Collector.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
16: Abomination
I actually really liked Tim Roth's Abomination/Emil Blonsky. When I heard that he may have been potentially returning for Age of Ultron I was beyond the moon! But his story has so many places it could go. Following his defeat in Harlem at the hands of the Hulk, he was captured by SHIELD. But like the Leader, Abomination may have escaped whilst Hydra revealed themselves to be within SHIELD all along. His story is so far from over, and I am sure he'd want revenge on Hulk. I get that the fight scene was very CGI, and that his turn into a rage monster was sudden, and kind of unnesescery, but Roth made such an impression as Blonsky, to warrent me wanting a return! Bring him back, bring him back!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
15: General "Thunderbolt" Ross
William Hurt nailed, absolutely nailed the role of General Ross! He looked the part, sounded the part, and had a hatred of the Hulk that reached back decades. He also nailed the depiction of his complicated relationship with his daughter, Betty Ross. I was so happy when Ross, played again by Hurt, returned in Captain America: Civil War, as it was the first time a side character (and an actor) from The Incredible Hulk had appeared in another MCU since its release in 2008! I really want to see him return. Speaking of which- what ever happened to Betty?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
14: Ronan the Accuser
A lot of people disliked Ronan, but I found him a great villain. He had power and prescence. His loud, booming voice sent chills down my spine, his story was sympathetic in a way, his look was striking, and he also just had so much power in his weapon and when he added the Power Stone to it it made him one of the coolest villains in the MCU to date. Many people complain that he was fooled and distracted too easily, but it made for a humorous scene. Ronan is criminally overlooked.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
13: Nebula
At first Nebula is a bad guy, and she is in the typical sense. Raised by an evil adoptive father, and wants to be better than her sister. But one of the few good things Guardians Vol. 2 did right was showcase why Nebula does all she does. As a child Gamora and Nebula would always be forced to fight, and Thanos, in disappointment at Nebula's always loosing, took a limb off of her and replaced it with a robotic part in order to keep up her motivation. It set her up to be a survivour, and also made the fans gain sympathy for her, and in some way, made Gamora seem like the bad guy. But Nebula went from being pretty low down on the list, to being quite high up.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
12: Crossbones
In the comics Brock Rumlow has a major part to play, and is one of Captain America's primary antagonists, even killing him at one stage following the Civil War comic event! In the films however, Crossbones is the beginning of the Civil War, rather than the ending of it. I really liked how the character was built up. First as an ally to Steve Rogers and SHIELD, then he was revealed to secretly be a Hydra goon and tried to hunt Cap and Widow. Great storytelling. What I liked most though was how, at the end of TWS we saw Brock get smashed with a Hellicarrier and badly burned, but alive. Opening Civil War he is now his own criminal with a supervillain suit and a codename, Crossbones. I really liked the tragedy aspect of his character, and he has a really comic book accurate suit, which I respected. He was cool character.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
11: Baron Helmut Zemo
Whilst I will admit- this character is only the character from the comics by name, as he never once dresses in his iconic purple sock, or have allegiances to Hydra, he was a pretty sympathetic villain. Yes, the film Civil War, would have perfectly have worked without Zemo, some would argue it didn't need Zemo, but one cannot deny he had an emotional, relatable story, and it showed the reason why the Sokovia Accords were put into place. Daniel Brühl did a great job with his scenes also. However, a lot of his plan was reallt by coincidence that it worked.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10: Laufey
Laufey was a welcome surprise. Memorable, striking and imposing, he was quite menacing and a worthy threat to Thor and the Asgardians. I loved his goals and reasons. The make-up used was also brilliant, with the blue skin, scales and piercing red eyes sending shock waves through me. His power set was also really cool, I want them. Definitely a memorable villain.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
09: The Black Order
The Black Order were a huge surprise in Infinity War. Whilst they could have been another group of generic sidekick antagonists like Taserface and Topaz were, they ended up becoming so much more. They were powerful, looked awesome, and had great voices. Ebony Maw was the best of the bunch. Proxima Midnight had a great look and name and awesome fight scenes. They were memorable villains, I only hope some return in Avengers 4 in future movies- perhaps an origin movie could come- The Black Order: Thanos' Children would be an awesome movie.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
08: Ultron
Whilst Ultron could have, and should have, been built up over many movies in Marvel's Phase 2, what we got was great anyway. Ultron got many upgrades in his short time, but he was always visually haunting and terrifying, James Spader delivered a great motion cap and voice performance on Ultron. My problem; I wish we got to see how Ultron turned evil. Maybe he could have done a few missions with the Avengers, before turning against them when he realised he was against their ways of protecting the earth. But Ultron was definitely one of the better MCU villains to grace the screens, being a true threat to the Avengers team.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
08: Erik Killmonger
What a seriously amazing villain! Marvel really turned things around. Not only was Killmonger physically imposing, thanks to Michael B. Jordan's efforts to get into shape for the role, but he also had a unique hairstyle, a great pattern on his chest and a really great motive and reason for wanting revenge on not just Black Panther, but Wakanda itself. Michael B. Jordan brought emotion and depth to the role and it paid off. The only issue was in the third act when he became the Golden Jaguar and pretty much became a villain-copy of the hero- much like Iron Monger in Iron Man and Yellowjacket in Ant-Man. But his reasonings for wanting to expose Wakanda to the world tied in nicely with the rest of the plot. Seriously amazing.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
07: Red Skull
Red Skull was a really great antagonist. He is the archenemy of Captain America and for good reasons- he is the exact opposite of Cap in every possible way. Whilst many may complain that he was too generic, I give him a pass as he is from an era where the world was good vs evil. There were no hidden agendes, it was just either you were with or against each other. Johann Schmidt was raised up to believe in Nazi Germany and all it stood for. Hugo Weaving played the role perfectly, and also pulled off the red face. I am glad the movie let him have the red face for over half the movie, and the reveal was awesome too. What I love about him also- he isn't dead, well he may have died by old age, but he is still alive as we know it- so there is always a chance he could return somehow, which gets me very excited indeed!
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
06: Surtur
Maybe its criminal to have a C-level villain this high up, but I really took a liking to Surtur. He was so menacing and looked visually impressive, such a powerful figure. His voice was booming and he reminded me of Laufey in that he had a big, loud voice, howeber Laufey was ice and Surtur is fire. But lets be real, Surtur destroys Asgard- something not many villains can say. He brought Ragnarok- hell he was Ragnarok! He was a great villain for Thor: Ragnarok.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
05: Ulysses Klaue
One of the biggest surprises of Black Panther was how charasmatic Ulysses Klaue was. I always knew Andy Serkis could act- his roles in Lord of the Ring's Gollum and Planet of the Apes' Ceaser proved that, but this film showed a different side to his acting. Comedic. And it wasn't cheesy comedic. He was genuinly charasmatic and fun to be around. His history as an enemy of the Black Panther mantle was well established, his robotic arm he recieved after Ultron snapped his arm off in Age of Ultron was utilised awesomely and made for some of the best scenes in the film. I only hope Marvel finds a way to bring his character back.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
04: Loki
Loki may not be number #1 anymore, but he is still pretty close. Tom Hiddleston brought such a charm with him in his first performance in Thor, and also made his character quite sympathetic. He was adopted and never felt as loved or as worthy, as his brother Thor. I loved how he truly was unpredictable at first and how he played the cruelest tricks on his brother for his own personal gain- even messing up Thor's coordination day. In Avengers he was the one who literally brought Earth's Mightiest Heroes together. He was hilarious in The Dark World, and in Ragnarok I loved how we got to see him in yet another different light. He has been through a lot of changes and he still continues to try to find his place in the universe.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
03: Vulture
Sony usually do good jobs with Spider-Man villains. Green Goblin, Doctor Ocotopus and Harry Osborn, and I liked Sandman, from Sam Raimi's trilogy were all well beloved! Marc Webb's trilogy had its fair shares of ups and downs with Lizard and Harry Osborn being personal highlights for me. But they also had their major misfires- Venom, Electro and Rhino anyone? Thankfully Vulture can be added to the line-up of good Spider-Man film villains. His suit was badass, and he also had a great compelling reason for being angry at the superheroes and why he took up a life of crime. Also his ties with Peter Parker as well as Spider-Man was fun to watch. Michael Keaton isa great actor and brought something special with him flr this role. Whilst I initially expected and wanted something more from the horror aspect from him, what we got was more than enough.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
02: Hela
Will Hela became Thanos' love interest? Is Hela dead? So many questions came out of Thor:Ragnarok. Cate Blanchet's Hela is the best MCU villain to date. Not only was she visually a stunning site, whether with her helmut on or hair down, she was always beautiful. I loved her raw power- how she took on an entire Asgardian army. I also loved her powrs of creating swords anywhere. By far the best villain in the franchise.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
01: Thanos
Marvel promised Thanos would be the main protagonist and antagonist in Avengers: Infinity War, so did they deliver on their promises? Well heck yeah they did, because Thanos has jumped from the bottom of the list to the top. He was powerful, imposing and posed a true threat to the MCU heroes. No more sitting in a chair for Thanos, I loved how he got down and dirty and didn't let his Black Order do all the hard yards for him. In his first moments in Guardians of the Galaxy where he was a threat sitting down, to his first fight with the Hulk in Infinity War where he took out the Green Rage Monster like he was a puppet on strings and then proceeded to kill two of the franchises most beloved characters. He also surprisingly had a more emotional side to him, especially with his relationship with Gamora. I loved the scene where he showed his love to Gamora in the most Thanos-y way. Amazing villain.
So thats it. My ranking of the MCU villains. Again I left out all the TV villains as the question didn't ask for it. Some I missed- Maya Hansen (because she was more of an anti-hero), Tina Minoru (because she wasn't even name dropped in Doctor Strange and is now more popular on the MCU set Runaways series), Baron Karl Mordo (because he isn't really a bad guy yet), and The Winter Soldier (because he was brainwashed and more an Avenger now). Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver (because they took hero turns), Aaron Davis (because he wasn't really a villain yet), Mac Gargan (whilst he may become the Scorpian in Spider-Man 2 at the moment he is only a teased villain). I hoped you enjoy.
