The 8 Rules of Ruling Like The World’s Biggest Movie Star: Shah Rukh Khan

Shah Rukh Khan is the world’s richest film actor with a net worth of over 600 million dollars. Forbes has called him the world’s biggest movie star and Newsweek has called him one of the 50 most powerful people in the world. His success is magical but that does not mean that we cannot rule our domains as well with the same flair that he does.
Here are the 8 rules of ruling like the world’s biggest movie star, the Baadshah of Bollywood: Shah Rukh Khan
1. Dream Big

In Shah Rukh Khan’s boyhood, his father had to take him to a roundabout to watch the cars go by because they couldn’t afford a film ticket. In fact, he had to sleep on roads while waiting for his first film roles. However, he had dreams in his heart and that is what matters most. One of the more famous stories about him talks about how he always looked at the skyline of Mumbai, the base of Bollywood, and said that he would rule the city one day. He now stands as the biggest movie star in the world but he had to start somewhere. I have seen it said no better than by Vishen Lakhiani, founder of the world renowned company Mindvalley, who said, “Epic things start with small humble steps. Pay respect to your beginnings. And if you’re just starting out, know that it’s okay to be sucky. To be small. To be messy and chaotic. Just make sure that you never stop dreaming
2. Know that you will do it

How can you win unless you are completely sure that you will win? King Khan himself has said, “I am here to rule” and his performances reflect that. To a great man, there is no other option other than to achieve his dreams. Convince yourself that the goal will be achieved and it will happen. Henry Ford said it best when he said, “Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t… you’re right.”
3 .Work hard

There is simply no substitute for this rule and anyone who tells you there is a shortcut is a liar. Shah Rukh Khan himself has said, “There is only one religion in the world- hard work.” He gets four hours of sleep a night. He can be found reading out of his extensive library, working and exercising long into the night. He does not regard all this work as work and the reason why brings us to our next point.
4.Love what you do

Love is the most powerful force in the universe and all so called hard work becomes easy in front of it. When you have fire in your belly for something, all hardships and obstacles are burned away. You have to love your work in order for it to be meaningful. Find meaning in your work because you spend 70% of your waking hours there. Do not wait for the weekend to find meaning in life, find it everywhere. In fact, a large part of the meaning you find in life should come from your work.
5. Be Grateful:

Be grateful for all the people and things that have helped you to get where you are. Be grateful for all the luck that you have been afforded because success is largely due to luck. Of course, you make your own luck through hard work but there is always someone else far more hard working and talented who could have easily gotten the success you got, you were just lucky. But what you appreciate appreciates. Be grateful for what you have and luck will be the natural result.
6. Respect the people instrumental to your success

Shah Rukh Khan can be considered a self made star, but he himself will tell you that a lot of people have been instrumental to his success. The beautiful lessons afforded by his parents, his stunning costars, his beautiful family and all the filmmakers who make his wonderful films possible. Be kind to the people around you because they will ultimately lift you up. Regardless of how much you attain, a person who will believe in you when there is no reason to believe in you is the most valuable thing on earth.
7. Stand on the shoulders of giants

Shah Rukh Khan has said that his idols are Indian film legends such as Amithabh Bachchan and Rajnikanth. He aspires to be like these film giants and he learns something from everyone of them. From Amithabh Bachchan, he said he learnt about dedication to ones art and from Rajnikanth, he learnt the value of humility. In a similar way, find the giants of your domain, take their qualities and imbibe them in you. It is only by learning from those that have come before you that you can become great because as one of the greatest scientists of all time, Issac Newton said, “If I have seen further, it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.”
8. Be yourself

As Dr. Seuss one famously wrote,“Today you are You, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is Youer than You.” Don’t treat your little idiosyncrasies as things to be hid from the world. Embrace them and be unique. As the inimitable Shah Rukh Khan himself once said, “There’s no such thing as normal, that is just another word for lifeless,”
Shah Rukh Khan is an epitome of ruling one’s domain in style. He has no competition because he himself does not believe in competition. Rather he believes that everyone has their own gift to give to the world. One has to identify that gift and follow the rules. No matter what your domain is, the rules for ruling are the same. All that is required is a conscious decision to rule your domain and a commitment to apply these rules in your life.
